Photo cleanup: responsible use
Authorized retouching
Remove dust spots, small blemishes or distractions from photos you created or are authorized to edit. Follow the applicable licence and respect the rights of people shown.
Prohibited uses
Do not use Photo cleanup to infringe copyright, bypass stock-photo licensing, remove someone else's attribution or rights notices without authorization, or alter documents or evidence to mislead others.
Know your rights
Removing copyright information to facilitate or conceal infringement may be unlawful. Owning a copy of an image does not necessarily give you editing or reuse rights. Laws vary by jurisdiction; check your permission and intended use. This is general information, not legal advice.
How to clean up your photos in 3 steps
Open a photo
Choose a photo you created or are authorized to edit. Your original file stays unchanged.
Paint the distraction
Use Heal for a small blemish on a simple background. For texture, switch to Clone, choose a clean source and paint over the area. Undo and refine any stroke that does not blend well.
Inspect and download
Compare Before and After, inspect the edited area closely, then export and download a new image with your chosen filename.
Remove small unwanted objects from a photo
Dust spots, small marks on a wall and minor distractions against smooth backgrounds are good starting points for Heal. The brush estimates surrounding colours. Clone copies texture from a source you select, which can help repair areas where a plain colour fill would look unnatural.
Know what photo cleanup can repair
This is a manual retouching tool, not generative AI object removal. It cannot reconstruct exact hidden details. Large photobombers, faces and patterned backgrounds may leave visible seams or require another source photo. Use small strokes, inspect the result and keep your original.
Private image editing on your device
Your images are opened and processed in your browser, not uploaded to a server. The website downloads the code and assets it needs to run, and some tools download a processing model. Those requests do not contain the photos you open. Download your results before closing the page; working images are not kept between visits.
